This is a detached corner pub. This pub is Victorian, and then called the Sportsman. Originally flieds stood opposite, now it is all built-up. By the 1930s the pub had been extended at the side and rear. The pub is a fantastic looking red brick building, with moulding and a clock tower. It is worth visiting for the building alone. The old corner entrnace isn't used, although this would have taken you into a vestibule separated from the pub by wood and glass partitioning. I only saw the main L-shaped bar, in which there is a pool table. It is also Irish themed (hence the name and it is run by a friendly Irish couple), but not 'in-your-face', just with a few bits of Guinness memorabilia. The room is in white, with green leather perimeter seats. There are a few jugs and things, as well as a pull-down screen TV (showing the footy). There was no music. The service was friendly and the locals too - it was very cosmopolitan. Beer; no real ale, just the basic taps with M&B MILD. The MILD was pretty poor, they clearly don't sell much of it. A pleasant enough experience, it is just sad that there isn't much on the beer front for my personal taste.
