Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Coach & Horses

Although extended several times, the old part of this country pub on the historic Icknield Street retains some character in the two separate bars (although the newer brick building housing the restaurant is less appealing). There is also a raised patio terrace beside the outbuildings at the front which is home to the Weatheroak Hill Brewery, and a more traditional grassed beer garden lower down. Up to ten different cask ales available from the bank of handpumps divided between the counters, including a couple of their own such as my Slow Lane (£4.55).

Somewhat confusing place. With the grafted-on modern extension facing the side car park it doesn’t look like a pub at all when you alight your motor, more like a local community centre. This, it turns out, is the modern dining area and you need to go down what feels like a side passage to actually get to the main door. Upon entering through a porch is a large and fairly sparse quarry tiled bar area with said dining extension up steps off right and a far better drinking room to the left. As we were eating we sat ourselves in the dull (mint green and white) dining area, in retrospect I should have asked if they served food in the drinking room. Anyway, the request for three rounds of faggots got a guffaw from inside the bowels of the pub with the served-up chow of decent unpretentious presentation. GBG-listed and a brewpub too (Weatheroak Hill); there were three of theirs on with four others from regionals. I tried the Icknield Pale and Slow Lane which were both GBG quality (NBSS 3.5 x2) and pretty decently brewed. Desmond would like it noted that his gunned lemonade was rated ‘dire – one of the worst I’ve had” and that boy has deep knowledge of the genre. Despite not getting the full drinker’s experience, I would happily do this one again. 7.5

The enthusiasm reflected in the reviews below remains well deserved. Only had a brief eyeball of the many pumps as we whistled through the bar to find some socially distanced seating in the modern lounge beyond, and settled on Hobson's Best, which was spot on and cheerfully served.

This pub is a GBG regular and has been in the same family for 50 years, and, judging be the turnout on a dreary midweek afternoon, is deservedly popular.

Worth a trip out especially if you can get someone else to drive.
