Impressive looking building not far from a busy A Road.
Having left my previous pub in the rain and having driven through a torrential storm, I was pleased to find a marquee set up in the garden of this pub. Having said that, the rain had stopped for the day and it had actually become sunny.
4 other customers were present on my arrival, with 2 guys conducting a business meeting over Guinness and two ladies lunching with red wine.
I did manage to check out the spacious interior whilst searching for service and discovered two of the pub's three rooms.
The real ale choice was limited to Wye Valley HPA. So, I opted for a fruit juice and a bag of scratchings, due to me driving. The scratchings were good and plentiful, but £4.40 for this round seemed a bit extortionate given the fruit juice was 15 months out of date. As it takes too long to get served and to pay these days, it was not worth attempting to grab the young server for a second time.
A board displaying a range of pizzas was on the wall. When the ladies asked for a sandwich, the barman/waiter had to admit that they had no bread. So, it would appear that food cannot be relied on here either.
Quite a few more people had arrived by the time I departed. Hopefully for them, they were happier with the drinks, food and service than I was!

Large listed Georgian building on the road south from the village which looks like it's been refurbished very recently. Everything squeaky clean and painted white which makes it all seem a bit soulless. The inevitable range of high and normal tables don't help matters. Of course it probably feels different when there's more that the half a dozen or so present when we called. To be honest the interior lets the building down and it's more of a summer afternoon destination when you can enjoy a spot on pint of Boltmaker in the pleasant garden or seats out the front. Barford is an attractive village worth a wander round, and with three pubs makes a nice afternoon out on a sunny day.
