A nice terraced Victorian/Georgian pub and eatery, known locally as 'Sweeties'. It is in white painted brick with green paintwork around the door and on the window sills and rusticated lintels. The central entrance is flanked by a sash window and a coach entrance to the the other side, while there are three sash windows above and a dog-tooth moulded cornice. Some boards were being rennovated on the frontage - so it may be being spruced-up a little. There is a patio area at the rear.
The interior has one long room that i saw, with the serving bar to the left on entry. This room had a raised area at the back where there are comfy seats and canles on the tables - most of the room is set-up for dining too be fair, although there are both a pool table and a dart board. The decor has wood panel, grey patterned wallpaper at the back and a light grey upper wall and ceiling. There is cream wallpaper at the front and some exposed brick work. There is a functional brown carpet that makes a change from the normal loud patterned one you get in foody pub area. There are the usual TVs with silent TV news on. Some beer mirrors and photos are on the walls. The background music is general and at a decent level. I didn't eat, but the menu is a budget one - 2 for £6 for lunchtimes etc. The service was fine and there were a couple of locals in drinking and a couple eating.
Beer; usual tap stuff, with no MILD and three handpulls with Greene King IPA, Spekky Hen (sold out) and a fair Sharpe's Doombar.
This was a pleasant enough place. Three real ales, sadly one of which is GK IPA, and it does budget menus. I was happy enough to stop for one and would return, likely, for one.
