A fairly imposing sight with its location at a confluence of three roads, nevertheless despite living and working fairly close by for years I had never ventured in until last night. I didn't actually expect too much, but I found the place perfectly acceptable for a quick pint. There is a two room format either side with the bar running through, bar and saloon. The bar has a pool table and was a bit rowdy despite there only being a handful of people in. The saloon side is quite large, carpeted, with banquette seating, standard chairs and stools, all pretty traditional really. One area is slightly raised. A few screens were showing football, with the commentary piped into the gents also!
Plenty of nic-nacs, such as old bottles, jars, clocks etc on a high shelf running around the walls, a real fire added warmth on a cold evening.
While not a themed Oirish pub, the place has a definite Irish air noted in a few of the signs around but this is probably because the landlord himself is an Irishman.
Two pumps in each bar but just one ale on, Sharps Doom Bar, other pumps unclipped. The beer and welcome were fine.
