Modern place that was Surrey Pub of the Year in 2017, (according to their menu anyway – I suspect it was North Surrey CAMRA POTY). Five pumps on with a good range; W&E Conqueror (warm) and Knight of the Garter, Crafty Loxhill Biscuit (pump tired and a bit apply - I've had this beer elsewhere and really enjoyed it. Not here tho), Tillingbourne Gold and Hogsback TEA. Bar service perfunctory. Noisy twilds in attendance plus a door that wouldn't close properly, leading to people having to get up every few minutes to slam it shut to stop the cold getting in. Interior is of the inoffensive light and bright variety; magnolia walls, light grey fifth length wainscoting and an air of being new rather than lived in. 6 Nations on the telly and live music advertised. Slates with some cringey slogans on the wall to really round it all off. Given this was at least the local CAMRA branch Pub of the Year in 2017, I expected much better and left wondering what the fuss was about. The other GBG19 entry in Chertsey, the Olde Swan, delivered better ale and ambience.

I somehow missed this pub last time I was in Chertsey ,yet I must have walked past it. It's fairly modern inside, light and airy with a light wood and cream colour scheme. There is a gastro element to the place but it manages to still be very much a pub as evidenced by the fact it's the CAMRA North Surrey pub of the Year. There are six handpumps on the bar and beers on my visit were, Welton's Old Cocky,Triple fff Moondance, Skinners Betty Stogs, Thurston's APA, Courage Best and Twickenham Sundancer, a fairly safe but reasonably varied choice, my Sundancer was in good form, there was the remains of the previous weekends beer festival set up in the beer garden.
I liked this pub and its general ambiance a lot.

A bright and airy interior with large clear windows and pastel shades on the walls, boarded flooring, tables of various sizes, some stripped to bare wood. A couple of the high versions with stools in the middle of the floor, lower walls wainscoted. Décor included a few framed bits and pieces including theatre flyers, there is also an old penny in a slot horse racing game mounted on the wall by the entrance. A set of antlers on another wall above a fireplace that looked like it gets some use when needed.
This place comfortably has the best ale selection in town, six handpumps, all were on. Bingham's Twyford Tipple, Wadworth's Dirty Rucker, Tillingbourne The Source, Thurston's Horsell Gold, Caledonian Flying Scotsman and Courage Best. There had been earlier a CAMRA meeting in the pub but I would hope that the full range of beers was coincident with this.
Food served but not it appears on Saturdays as a couple entered and tried to order. Wednesday is burger night.
There is a largish garden area to the rear accessed through patio doors.
Not one to miss should you find yourself in the centre of Chertsey, a refreshing change in this part of the town.
