Final pub of a long day so notes are sparse and as there was zero seating inside we had to stand out the back in the substantial rear patio garden anyway. A pretty large place inside which looks like it has had a fair amount of refurb since my last visit 15 years ago. Noted half a dozen or so ales and, like a dog with two dinners, I couldn’t decide what to have a pint of when confronted by both Bathams and Bass so I went a half of both and got a double NBSS 3.5. Hard to fully form a judgement in the circumstances but the cask choice and quality told me enough to prompt a revisit at the start of a session next time.

Exterior and interior are a bit bland but the bar has a bit more zest and makes this a good little ale pub with some characters. The ale I had was good and I’d happily pop back.

revisit in October 2025 - The beer is still exceptional. Today, it was Bathams Mild, White Rat, Theakstons Best and a chosen Golden Glow from Holdens. I have possibly only had it as good in one other place - The Great Western in Wolverhampton.

Wow - Not sure I have been anywhere following the Good Beer Guide that has scored so highly as Lichfield.

This is a freehouse. I only had 30 mins before my train, so had to make a hard choice between Otter Bitter and Landlord. I went Landlord. It was in exceptional condition.

Loved the place and wished I could have stayed for the Otter. Or the HPA. Or the Golden Glow.

Another quality pub in Lichfield. 7 ales on including beers from Otter and Holdens. I went for the otter and it was spot on. A must do for me in the area.
