Decent village pub in the 2017 Good Beer Guide. The main room (presumably opened out from two) is on slightly different levels, with the dining area up a few steps from the main counter. Not much seating in this part of the bar, but if you carry on round you find another room and a side snug (both with interesting local history photographs). Attractively furnished and decorated in a semi-modern style throughout. Total of seven handpumps on the counter, offering a range of real ales in a variety of styles from mostly smaller breweries plus a cider, and my pint of Portland Black from Welbeck Abbey (£3.50) was in fine form.

Excellent, stone built GBG listed pub in pretty village between Rotherham and Barnsley, close to Wentworth House. Entering from the front off Main St although there is a back entrance, there is a L shaped room with alcoves and lots of chairs and tables for dining while still remaining very definitely a pub. The front section has raised dining and lower seating areas while the back splits into two rooms – a cosy snug with stripey settles, chairs and tables. The other bit, by the bar, has an open fire, stripey bench seating, britannia tables and exposed stone in part. The is a small TV, a profusion of prints, framed newspaper cuttings, old photos and old woodworking tools. There is also a case of miniature golf clubs, some plates and stone jugs to complete the décor. Six handpumps with beers Taylors, Acorn, Wentworth and Foreigners from Woods and Slaters, the condition of my Wentworth was sublime. Also a range of kegs with the worthwhile Hoegaarden and Pilsner Urquell among them. The service was exactly right too.
