The Coalbrookdale Inn is situated away from the River Severn and the tourists crowds. As such, it is more of a drinkers' pub and was just about our favourite of 10 pubs we visited in Shropshire on Sunday.
The entrance is up a few steps from the roadside. There is a drinking shelf outside up the steps, where locals seem to like gathering. As you enter, the bar is immediately in front of you, with rooms on either side. The bar has 7 handpulls, 5 of which were clipped. Hobson's Town Crier is the regular beer. Guests were Wye Valley HPA & Samurai & New Brew New India & NPA. The draught cider was from Plan B. My New India was certainly the best quality beer I tasted during the day.
The interior is fairly traditional with a tiled floor. There is a dartboard in one of the rooms to the right. Cobs are served from behind the bar. There is limited parking to the left-hand side of the pub, but beware its position in the middle of a set of traffic lights.

Called into this friendly community pub with a good beer selection yesterday. Beers from Cross Bay, New Brew, Sarah Hughes, Hobsons and Wye Valley. Enjoyed our New Brew beer.

This is a lovely no frills village pub, with quarry tiled floor and a wooden bar with fielded panels. With eight hand pumps it must be a concern as to whether there is sufficient throughput to maintain that many beers in good enough condition, especially outside the tourist season. I went for the Hobsons Mild, which wasn't in very good condition: rather limp and lifeless. The same thing happened when I had the same beer in Bridgnorth the next day, so either there's a problem with this beer or people in Shropshire are not drinking as much MILD as they should. This small quibble apart, I liked it here, though as I was the first customer of the day after the pub opened at four I can't say anything about atmosphere. The open fire was very welcome and I will certainly be back here next time I'm in Ironbridge.
