The Loggerheads, Shrewsbury

Loggerheads is an inviting looking pub down a side street with plants in pots and hanging baskets along the front. The left-hand door opens into a red tile floored corridor that accesses snugs with a mix of seating to the left and rear and the small wooden floored bar area to the right where a serving counter across the rear faces a couple of tables with green padded benches that were being used by some locals. An opening to the right of the bar serves a herringbone floored room to the right where tables sit by red banquettes and floral upholstered stools. This is a largest room, so they’ve managed to get a dartboard in next to the fireplace that sits adjacent to the bar hatch. I didn’t note any televisions, but there was some oldies music playing off a radio station in the background. The draught options on the counter were Standard keg alongside Birra Moretti, and four of the six hand pumps were in use drawing Rev James, Youngs Special, Wainwright and Lilley’s Mango Cider. The Wainwright was good but was served a little cold. I think saying the service was polite would be overdoing it, but I wasn’t made to feel unwelcome, and the locals were all friendly enough. I’ll pop back in here next time I’m in town.
