We were tipped to visit here from one of the regulars from the Plough in Radford. We found this to be a very friendly and welcoming pub. There was a birthday party in action on our visit, so the manager told us that there was plenty of food at the buffet and to take a plate and help ourselves. A plate of hot chilli and rice was very well received and our tag-along friend enjoyed his too.
Part II
We had to make a revisit on Sat eve, as our notes were a little blurred from Friday. On this visit, the pub was busy again and we met more friendly and chatty regulars. There were four ales on, the Full Mash Warlord and Seance were very quaffable.

A nice little terraced pub with two bays flanking the central entrance. The upper frontage is in cream painted brick, the lower has a slight mock-Tudor moulded stone with brick infill look. There is a patio at the front and a beer garden at the back. There is a single room around a central island serving bar, which is in red and white, with white ceiling and wood floor. There is a brick fireplace and a raised area with a pool table and red chimney breast. The walls sported general pictures and mirros, and a few brasses were dotted about for interest. The TVs had sport on and the music was general at an ok level. The service was really good and the clientele seemd to be both mature and down to earth! You get a CAMRA discount. Beer; usual tap stuff with Full Mash Brewery's Manhattan Pale, Seance and Whistle Dixie, along with Hardy & Hanson's Olde Trip on handpull. The Seance and Dixie were decent. I really liked it here and no doubt, on our next trip to Notts, we will be in again.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Portland Arms
Traditional backstreet pub, opened out to form a 'U'-shaped bar but still retaining four different seating areas and a fair amount of character. Two of four handpumps in operation, offering two local beers: Nottingham Rock Bitter and Aqua Vitae from the Full Mash Brewery (£2.70).
