That sinking feeling when you see the Hungry Horse sign outside the pub you are heading for. Actually, it could be worse despite an attempt to thrust a modern interior into an old building. The large screen TV gives an upmarket sports bar feel to the pub area, while the family side sprawls around the edges. Just GK IPA on draft but at least it was in drinkable condition.

Well what a surprise. I'm on cat sitting duties today and staying overnight in Crossgates in Scarborough. Popped in for a couple of beers and realised that this place has become a Hungry Horse Pub. It was reminisant of our trip to Spalding recently where we were very impressed with a pub called The Bird, I had a couple of pints of Greene King IPA which was £1.99, (normally £2.30), due to some sort of football match or something going on in South Africa. Like the Bird they also had Draught Speckled Hen and the food choice, which was much the same, looked very good and was at reasonable prices. The staff were very friendly and thoughtful and one customer who seemed to be Dutch, was the perfect gentleman, although I must admit his accent was a bit difficult to follow. Excellent family facilities and very enjoyable.

Pleasant family pub. A sort of modern traditional main room. The cask Greene King IPA was excellent.
