Woodforde's brewery tap, this pub is located deep in the Norfolk countryside, but was busy, mainly with diners. Many were sat outside in the well manicured garden.
We entered and were immediately asked if we'd made a reservation, something that always raises my hackles. It's almost like getting ticked off for daring to enter a pub without a booking.
We were also told fairly swiftly that it was table service only, despite many people later going to the bar to order. There were plenty of staff here, but service did seem a little disorganised.
Cask ales are dispensed from probably fake barrels located at the back of the bar. The selection was Wherry, Nelson's Revenge, Norfolk Nog, Reedlighter, Bure Gold, Sundew & Volt. There were further beers on keg.
My Volt was ok, without being exceptional and the brewery shop was a little disappointing. An overly commercialised place that I wouldn't rush back to. CAMRA discounts have been discontinued.

The Woodford Brewery tap, this pub was converted from three 16th Century cottages, still retaining the tiled floors, exposed timbers and brick walls though as features, and is now part of the brewery complex which includes the brew plant, shop and pub. There is a large neat garden which includes an old duck pond, now sadly enlosed by a post-and-rail fence to stop children drowning themsleves. The full range of Woodford ales is still available from casks and pumps, and as they have ‘tasting flights’ of 4 x 1/3 pint glasses on a wooden paddle, we were able to sample all of them without too much difficulty. All the shop merchandise was available to buy in the bar too; it took a bit of time to work out that their Nelson logo, which actually looks much more like Napoleon, wasn’t an alien wearing sun glasses. A couple of beers were disappointing, and maybe they’d been sitting too long. The food was very good, though some of the menu choices weren’t available. Staff were excellent: friendly, helpful and jovial, even making sure the dogs had water and dog biscuits. Despite the minor niggles it is a good pub in a brilliant setting and well worth finding.

Great Beer and great food, but often I feel it would be nice to have a separate area, purely to enjoy the beer, without the foodies being around. Some of the best beer available anywhere though, the Mild being my particular favourite!
