A large triangular pub with a nice large windowed exterior but sadly lacking much impressive inside. One corner of the bar was cordoned off for barrel storage to start with, while the paintwork generally could do with a refresh. To the rear is a large and somewhat gloomy restaurant area with a kitchen counter, while outside is a large garden, also with a kitchen counter, which is apparently popular with rugby fans. The ales should have been GK IPA and house bitter plus TT Landlord but these were all off, leaving a small selection of indifferent craft. Possibly comes to life on match days, but otherwise a bit of a waster of space.

They had on GK IPA; Norfolk Kiwi; Twickenham Redhead; Hogsback Damson in Distress; and Wandle Battersea Rye (£1.90 a half). There were single sheet menus attached to clipboards, mainly featuring tapas at £3 - £4.50 or three for £15 with a bowl of chips. Sandwiches are £7.50 to £8.50, with specials from £12 upwards. The “fillet of Atlantic cod, mussel and leek broth, butterbeans, chorizo” is £12 – an imaginative, some might say bizarre, combination, but everyone to their own I say.

This pub is much larger than it looks from the frontage on the main road. The main bar area at the front is divided into several interconnected drinking areas, with a “see-through” fireplace seemingly isolated but showing where a wall would once have been. Furnishings here are mainly normal tables and chairs, with the odd armchair and sofa, as well as one or two tall tables/tall stools. The place stretches back a long way to the rear (leading to a garden) and includes an area where table service is provided (and where an optional 12.5% service charge is added to bills). It’s bare-boarded throughout of course, walls are mainly dark grey to match the exterior, and there are a few black and white prints as decor. All this is to be expected of somewhere branding itself as a “pub and dining” venue.

On the plus side the beer range is good, and my half of Battersea Rye was in good shape, if served overly cold. I could have done without the loud music, some of which was of the rap persuasion, but I suppose that most people must want it. Overall I found it a bit more barn-like than pub-like for my taste, but it gets extra marks for the ale selection.
