Formerly a JDW called 'Sylvan Moon'; it was sold off as being too small for their business model and is now a freehouse. It has, however, retained the JDW feel, complete with horrible carpets, mute gaming machines and odoriferous unemployables exchanging their giros for beer. The tv screens were showing horse racing which made a nice change from football. The bar is small and irregularly shaped, so it does have some character. The staff were friendly, the higher-life-form locals were apathetic to our presence. There were 5 ales on, I had a pint of Kite Brewery Thunderbird which was quite good. I'd be happy to drop in for a decent pint when passing.
