A tiny, street corner pub located out on a bit of a limb, but it could nonetheless make a decent trio with the Cornubia and Kings Head. It must be one of Bristol’s tiniest pubs, although they do also have a few picnic benches out on the pavement at the front for the warmer weather.
Internally it’s a single, L-shape room with the bar counter in one corner. Décor wise it’s fairly traditional with deep blue paintwork on the walls, old wooden boards on the floor and a whitewashed ceiling interspersed with beams that have been painted the same blue as the walls. Seating was a mixture of padded bench seating around much of the permitter that had been painted black, and small stools. A number of very old gig posters were on the walls (David Bowie and Thin Lizzy, £1.25!) and I seem to recall that previously there was a turntable here for patrons to use, although there was no sign of that now. A pile of games were stacked up on a shelf in the corner, and a couple of punters were engaged in a game of chess.
Beers on tap were Moor Stout, Indigenous Frisky Mare, Quantock QPA and Kettlesmith Wheelhouse. There was also a decent keg selection, many from local micro’s. Ciders meanwhile were Brislington Brain Twister, Sheppy’s 200 and Thatcher’s Haze.

Another transformation - there's now a jumbo Hendrix mural covering the outside, whilst the interior is dark blue and white with black trim. It looks quite smart. Sunday is £3.50 on the cask, so from the five localish options I went for the best bang-per-buck of Moor Stout which was in good shape, a shame that mine must have been the first one out for a wee while as I suspect the person who slipstreamed me got a cracker (mine being NBSS 3.5) served-up by a friendly barmaid who kept herself busy rather than gimping around on her phone. Gratis cheese and crackers at the end of the bar. 50s and 60s music choice just right for a Sunday early evening as well. I was impressed and would pop back in again next time I’m going to the Cornubia. GBG listed.

There seems to have been a slightly clinical internal refurb in here since last time. Four ales in Beowulf, Dark Star, Osset and Bath. My Beowulf was OK if not exactly king of jungle. Rated 6

Teeny-tiny (smallest in Bristol?) basic pub which serves up two ales from Bath (SPA and Gem) plus two guests (one of which is often Arbor) at competitive prices. You can see what’s up next by peering at the clips atop the till. Novelty value in having a record player where the punters can play their own choices (within reason). Decoration is green-tinged and there's old album covers, gig tickets etc mounted on the walls. Bare boarded floor, fitted seating and small tables utilised to maximise space. Usually a good atmosphere though can get a bit squished when busy. Check out the view from the bridge, especially of the historic Cheese Lane lead shot tower. Walkable from the town centre and from Bristol Temple Meads – worth taking in if you’re visiting the nearby Seven Stars. Rated 7

As described below, this is a friendly little ale bar, a pleasant surprise once inside given the awful exterior paintwork and the pile of fag-ends on the footpath by the covered benches. There was football on the TV, but apart from that there was a convivial atmosphere which the two overloud bromancers failed to spoil. Ales on were Azzaca American Ale, Twisted Oak’s Ghost Town and Good Chemistry Extra Special, and there was an additional dry pump on the bar. Craft ales from Butcombe, and Wiper n True, were complemented by Paulaner Pils, a selection of megaciders, a premium lager and a selection of Belgian bottled beers. Worth a GBG entry and I’d definitely include in a crawl.
