After our disappointment at the nearby Lamb, we were hoping for something drinkable here, and were pleasantly surprised to find a selection of beers (see photos) including two relatively local ones from Coach House (Warrington) and Moorhouse (Burnley). OK, they're not exactly cutting edge but we were prepared to give them a go. My notes made at the time don't reveal whether it was here or at one of the two subsequent pubs that we left a good proportion of our beer undrunk - not complainably off, but not good enough to make drinking the pleasure it should have been. OK, maybe not here then. (Too many good beers supped at previous pubs!)

well now it has changed after a major refurbishment and looks plush and even more corporate than before. Now sells five real ales but sadly they’re still standard nationals. I can take or leave this kind of place and for me it’s just a soulless barn but it’s at least respectable when compared with many places in town.

Prominent corner pub, which has a busy and bustling atmosphere. The interior is comfortable and is split between the raised bar area and a lower seated area. There are photos of St Helens and Saints players around the walls. Four handpumps serving a mixture of nationals and locales. Unfortunately on this visit they were all nationals.
