In reference to the previous review, the Melrose Abbey did stop trading for quite a while. It is however open again and whilst I didn't get the pet shop smell, there really is very little to recommend it. On matchdays, it is handy for Kirkdale station. But you just wouldn't head here at any other time.

The keg selection was John Smith's, San Miguel, Inch's, Fosters, Carling, Guinness, Stella Artois, Strongbow Dark Fruit & Kronenbourg.

The worst "pub" ive ever visited. Had the smell of a pet shop. Visited after an everton game on route to kirkdale station.Beer was very average and there didnt seem to be a decent stock of alternatives to draught beer. Got the impression someone had just decided to open a pub and make do with whatever they could get from the cash and carry.I'd be amazed if it's still trading.
