A GK pub in a superb waterside location which facilitates water sports and other such pastimes when the weather allows. There is a covered patio at the side which stretches around the pub so that part of it overlooks the Mill Pond. The other side is cluttered with bicycles and rather grubby from smokers’ detritus and student litter. Students form the main clientele which detracts from the setting and the charm of the building. There are two or three separate bar areas, and they apparently do food though it wasn’t clear what was on offer. There were three ales on draft, Old Peculiar, Cam Ale and Nethergate’s Umbrel Magna, all in reasonable condition. I’d be happy to come back in principle, but it’s probably heaving when the weather’s good so it will never be a calm place.
