Dating from 1859, this was originally a Watney’s house which has gone through a number of names in recent years, though was originally the Prince of Wales.
A first in here the other night and although I wasn’t hoping for much, what I encountered failed to reach all expectations. The room is stark white with semi-industrial very bright lighting and a municipal black floor which more closely resembles a flat roof; it was also filthy, with wind blown leaves and a multitude of fag ends; I’d never seen so many fag ends on a pub floor even prior to the smoking ban. The bar back is just a bit of shelving with scaffold and décor amounts to framed and signed Arsenal memorabilia (The Emirates is just to the rear). Furniture is as basic as possible, minimal and there were a myriad TVs showing multiple sports with the sound down, which in any event would have been inaudible due to the pounding music being played, the Pet Shop Boys on arrival; in all, the whole ensemble resembled a downmarket youth centre. Customers were mixed in age and local, around half wearing Arsenal shirts and although most seemed ok, a couple got a bit boorish when AC/DC came over the stereo.
There’s no real ale here, just a forest of fizz founts, me opting for a half of Stella (£2.60) served in a plastic cup.
I can’t believe that there is a more dispiriting pub in the whole borough.

I'm not sure what to say about this pub; maybe I should start with the nutter who walked out and then tried to talk to me in jabbing motions through the open window whilst singing in Gaelic. Or maybe I should start with the barmaid who took ten minutes to pour half a Guinness because “I've not served any for a while”. Yes the hardy Guinness was rank and yes I was glad to escape.
The Sky and the pool table are the only things going for this place and I personally would save this place for match days when you just want a pint from anywhere.
