This pub is now closed and is apparently going to become a Tesco shop. According to Tim Martin in a letter published in London Drinker, Wetherspoon paid Tesco to take over the remainder of the lease, which seems an odd way to do businesss. His record proves that he knows what he is doing, although as this is easily the best pub in Southfield it is surprising if it was losing money, but this seems the only logical reason for paying to dispose of the lease.

This is one of the better Wetherspoons pubs that I have visited. It is small by Wetherspoons’ standards, had a lot of dark wood about the place, as well as several more intimate drinking areas. In fact it reminded me of a half decent Nicholson’s pub. If I were asked which of the two pubs next door to each other here was more akin to the archetypal Wetherspoons pub I would to say that it was The Old Garage next door. It looked for all the world as if a clientele exchange had taken place. Being a ‘spoons it has a good ale selection, although, due to its size I guess, it’s not quite as good as most other ‘spoons, and of course the usual menu is available. I spotted a table in an alcove on the left of the pub bearing miscellaneous leaflets, and with the largest pile of London Drinkers that I’ve ever seen in a pub – which is definitely a plus point. In all respects this is the better of the two pubs in Southfields, and I would be very happy to visit again.

Smaller than your average Wetherspoons, with also unusually a layout comprising of seperate areas. "The Grid" takes its name from the layout of residential street set out in the area between the railway and the District Line in the early 20th C. I found the pub to be fine for a quick drink, four guest ale pumps with the current festival beers on. Two mins from Southfields tube.
