As Roger says, this pub used to be called the Queen Victoria – it’s not easy to see why the name “Little House” was regarded as an improvement. This seems to be an honest inter-war backstreet boozer. Unfortunately the only real ale (Old Speckled Hen) was undrinkable, but was readily changed for the next best thing – keg Courage Best. It appears to be pretty much unchanged since when it was built between the wars, except, so I was told, for the addition of the bar gantry. It still has separate Public and Saloon bars, and the locals I spoke with in the Public Bar were very friendly and knowledgeable concerning the history of the pub. This is an excellent and friendly pub – if only they did a decent real ale.
