There's not much to add to that listed below; this is indeed a dingy place and is certainly reminiscent of a railway bar.

On our last trip a few months ago we all agreed that the cast of shady characters whose haunt this is, weren't fun to be around and the Crown & Shuttle up the road which has just reopened is in a different league. Indeed, Woodins Shades (opposite) whilst not great is a big improvement on this place.

A return visit after nearly 13 years and although I doubt the place has changed one bit, it was an altogether more pleasant – or less unpleasant – experience.
The interior looks like ‘60s’ kitsch, with exposed baronial beams and much bare brick; some nookie booths complete the picture, the whole summed up as cosy. The United Nations bunting advertising the imminent approach of FIFA’s cleaner-than-clean sporting jamboree were unnecessary, as was the loud music; customers were young, touristy and in high spirits.
The cask selection was better than most in the immediate vicinity, with Sussex Best, Ghost Ship, Five Points Best, London Original and Proper Job, surprisingly good, price forgotten.
This place has a certain curiosity factor, but Williams Ale & Cider House around the corner is so much better.
