Visited 11/08/25. Visited previously as the Butcher’s Tap & Grill on 23/01/24.

Three hand pumps, one awaiting a delivery but the other two dispensing their house bitter and then the Decade bitter from the Marlow Brewery. Keg offering of Estrella, Rebellion lager, Guinness, K1664, Hazy Day IPA (am assuming this is the GK quaff as nothing other than the name on a chalk inscribed clip).

Not much has really changed here other than a refresh and a rebrand as still in the same ownership. Upstairs it is L shaped with the bar counter with a zinc top and brass footrail along the left-hand wall from middle to rear venue. A couple of stools at either end of the bar counter plus a handful of tables generally served by leather studded banquettes and stools or leather padded chairs the other side thereof. There is a slightly raised seating area to the right of the entrance with regular tables and the same small, studded leather banquettes and leather padded chairs. Most here were dining and it still had the feel of a dining pub where punters come to drink around eating rather than to drink. Decor is plush with a glazed tile wall on one side of the stairs taking you down to the basement dining area. Popping here for a quick pint of bitter I was made to feel very welcome but wonder if I would have got anywhere to sit if I weren't dining at a busy time.

The site will undergo a light refurbishment following the closure, before relaunching on 16 June as the Chalk.

In reality a restaurant serving beer, this former pub is on a street corner and has had a very modern and expensive looking refurb. You will be met near the entrance at a lecturn but on asking whether I could just order a beer I was directed to the tables opposite and beyond the bar where drinkers can gather. The exterior tables and a raised section to the right seem just for diners and there is a huge fridge full of cheese by the lecturn.Everywhere dark, polished wood finishing, modern brown glazed tiling yet a terrestrial flatscreen on mute in a picture frame above the drinking tables.
Three handpumps but with just chalk beer names ,the barman couldnt tell be the provenance but turning to Untapped I discovered the choice on my visit was Greene King False Nine (NBSS 2.5,£3.50 half, dull brew),GK Hand & Flower and Rebellion IPA,a typical Tom Kerridge choice of insipid ,low ABV ales for it is he who has branded this place. The kegs options were equally mainstream. The food is meat orientated but whether 380g of Beef Fillet on the Bone is worth £48.5 I will leave others to judge.
All the staff were friendly but I wouldn't return just for an overpriced boring brown beer and no pub atmosphere. It may fit the Chelsea vibe however.
