Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Elgin
Corner gastro-pub with a relatively unfussy mix of mid-height, semi-modern furniture and dark, restrained decor. A few small tables can also be found out on the pavement. No real ale unfortunately, and the ten craft keg taps are on a hooped fount hidden behind unusual wooden boxing. Regular beers include Dream Factory and Metroland NYC (£6.10) from Two Tribes plus the 'house' Elgin Lager from Moor and others from Lost & Grounded, Hackney and Hammerton, together with a Sandford Orchard cider and up to three guests.

This corner building is now more cafe than pub,and the dark grey external colour scheme now looks a bit of a cliche.It's quite small inside with an initial area of dining tables,a mid building bar to the left side and then a series of sofas at the far end,with a few high tables arranged down the long side.Lots of exposed brick meets the eye.
There is a keg gantry on the bar with 10 taps,giving a wide selection of beer styles.There is a house lager,Hopf Helle Weisse,Elgin & Hopstuff Lemon Saison (£3 half,flavours a little indistinct),Four Pure Oatmeal Stout,Partisan Aged Saison,Gipsy Hill Hepcat,Wide Beer Bibble,a sparkling cider and other kegs I failed to note.Cakes and coffee also litter the bar,and the food menu is split with a breakfasty/lunch menu until 4pm,then a dinner menu from 5pm.Lots of punters were eating,and I took refuge on a sofa to consume my beer.Trendy muzak wasn't unpleasant.
If you are starting out into the world of keg beers,you may choose to come here to sample a variety of styles but this won't be cheap.It just doesn't feel the kind of bar to hang out for a large session,and as a pub it lacks many elements.

This pub has recently reopened after being refurbished and overall it's an improvement. Much of the interior's bare brick has been retained with the welcome addition of some rather nice glazed tiles. Some rather heavy duty architectural metalwork has also been installed in the form of bannisters and strange metal grilles to the upper stairs. The lavatories now have steel checkerplate flooring, some bare stone walls and bulkhead lamps with exposed metal trunking. Drinks are dispensed from some strange wooden contraption fixed to the bar which looks as if it were cobbled together by Handy Andy using cast offs retrieved from a skip. Beer names are applied to this in miniature using Dymo tape; you can't see what's on offer without leaning over the bar hogs. Suffice to say, this pub isn't exactly a hotbed of real ale delivery.
To the left of the single side bar is a selection of cakes. They aren't covered which I'm sure is a trifle unhygeneic; is that dessicated coconut on top or dandruff? Furniture is a little eclectic with much of the seating being second hand tubular steel and plywood stools.
In general I found this pub to be a little faux industrial. This concept might work in Camden Town or Covent Garden but I don't see how it fits in here. With the Warrington, Prince Albert and the newly refurbished Truscott Arms all just round the corner, there's certainly better locally. Still, the pub was full mid-week with a young crowd and there's no reason to avoid this pub, I just can't see any real reason to pay a visit.
