Single hand pump offering Oakham JHB. Not seen by me for a while. Keg offering was Neck Oil, Fosters, Guinness, Moretti, K1664, Madri, Pravda and Aspall cider.

This is quite a small pub, set one block back from the waterside. There are some garden benches with small round tables on the quiet outside pavement and as I approached it had a bit of a feel of an alpine chalet. It was hard taking a picture of the front with the name on display because of the apex roof over the entrance that partly obscures the pub name. Inside the venue is horseshoe shaped with the bar counter immediately confronting you on entering the venue. The bar counter was a dark wood affair with seating on the three sides of the bar counter. Other than that, small tables and chairs dotted around the front and sides of the bar counter, the right-hand side behind the counter being up a couple of steps. There was a corner leather banquette in the same part on the left-hand side. Lighting subdued and a reasonable soundtrack of 80's pop. This had the feeling of a local’s pub, and indeed I was the youngest here in an entirely male attendance. A TV was showing recorded action from the weekend' Premiership matches with the sound off. All told a nice old school pub that would be even better with one or two more hand pumps.

Originally the Chancellor, this place seems to have been rebuilt in 1857, having only been in existence for a couple of years.
The pub has an interior which may be interwar years, with a hop bine- topped bar displaying the illuminated name to the parapet, flanked by two Watney’s ‘red barrel’ motifs. The floor is boarded and walls are white, with a white Artex ceiling. To the left, is a comfy snug with green painted panelling. Décor amounts to framed prints and a large sport screen showing football, tending to dominate in such a small pub. Customers seemed to be locals, conversant with fairly industrial language and a few incomers, possibly from the expensive modern housing developments nearby.
Ales amounted to Doom and Pride, my half of Sharp’s Atlantic (out of the frying pan…) at a fairly reasonable £2.50, served by a disinterested barman.
This place is ok and with an upgrade to decent ale and decent behaviour, could be something of a minor destination.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Chancellors

Traditional side-street pub located opposite the former Riverside Studios (and previously on the Thames Path which used to have one of its annoying diversions away from the river bank in this area). Staple-shaped bar with a gantried counter, plain modern furniture, a dartboard and limited decoration apart from photographs of various celebrities. Doom Bar and Pride (£4.10) from the pair of handpumps. Although still basic, things seem to be a bit more inviting than I found on my previous visit nearly nine years ago, and I still like the amusing pub sign.
