A very attractive looking pub with a neat interior, a sign outside claims “established 1612” to match the archaic spelling. The front is a single bar the width of the pub with seating to the right and a counter and seating to the left, both rooms showing signs of multiple changes over the last couple of centuries. Half carpeted and with kitchen tables at buttoned leather banquettes as furnishing, many walls and ceilings are tongue and groove covered. Four pulls on the counter, an over the top Taylors one with Landlord, draught “Bass”, and as guests a Kent beer from Northdown called Crumb - a hazy DDH, very drinkable, a touch cold but ok, and finally a porter from Battle brewery. Keg on a low quad and trio with some more unusual beers and some less so but no usual suspects not even Guinness, the stout is from Camden. Minimal decor, some old photos and brewery signs. There’s a lounge/diner at the rear and beer garden to the side in a former entrance arch. Cash is preferred. A much better GBG pub than some others hereabouts.
