Situated in a quiet housing estate (although not that far from the High Street up the hill). A real treat, much larger than expected over two rooms via a knocked-through parlour. Wall and ceiling has a varnished thin wood tongue and groove cladding. Maroon and mocha colour scheme along with a classic pub carpet. Inbuilt windows above the bar - feels like a railway refreshment room. Lots of comedy events advertised for the function room. A GBG-listed Everards house with a good number of limited edition ales on; my Checkmate was a smidge warm but nice enough (NBSS 3) and the Trojan better (3.5). Think there were also a couple of ciders. 6 Nations on a drop down. Decided to grab some grub and got myself a tasty burger at a fairly competitive price. Barmaids pleasant though one swiped my glass which wasn't fully empty, tut-tut. I was impressed by this one, traditional pubmen will like it.

This was taken over by a new landlord about 18 months ago and has been given a new lease of life. It's been smartened up without losing any character or changing the layout. Wood-panelled bar, cosy lounge, regularly changing guest beers and a friendly, enthusiastic landlord. A village pub in the city!

Craking Victorian local in quiet location in old section of Aylestone village, on southern boundary of Leicester city.
At least 6 real ales.
Dogs welcome
Large beer garden
Close to canal, fields and Great Central Way.
Excellent traditional atmosphere
Leicester CAMRA Pub of the Month May 2007
Light lunches served Tues to Friday
Closed monday daytime till 5pm
Children not permitted in bars.
