If you didn't know any better you could expect this to be a decent olde worlde pub, but in fact it's a modernised chain pub with no real character to speak of. then again it tends to be busy and friendly at least and has a nice beer garden for warmer days than today. Their regular ale is brewed by Moorhouses and is always perfectly drinkable.

This place has improved greatly since my last visit. As with Mr Rays review the place did used to stink of stale chip fat but though they still do food the rather rancid aroma has gone. Much more brighter too. There were 3 real ales on but nothing really of note. Its a nice enough pub and is much better than it was a few years ago.

The most off putting thing about walking into this pub was the smell of grease wafting around the place, most probably from their cheap meals on offer displayed on the board outside. There was one person trying to serve food and tend to the bar. The interior was nothing to write home about, apart from a cast iron fireplace, with some wallpaper. The fire was not lit, a good job as the place would ignite with all the chip fat in the air. Moorhouses and Lancaster Black on handpump.
