A recent revisit found things ticking along nicely. Five ales, with the guest ales facing the entrance - good landlordship. My Adnams Ghost Ship in good form. Sadly no food on during mid-afternoon on Saturdays.

A traditional pub and a Good Beer Guide regular, better than anything nearby Thatcham has to offer. Run by the same licensees for the last 15 years or so and the landlord is good for a chat when its quiet. Usually four or five ales on the go, with West Berks and London Pride on regularly and excellent quality to match. The elevated south-facing front patio area is a summer sun-trap and a great place to sink your beer but it's also a cosy place that works well in the winter months as there are real fires to complement the comfy traditional interior. A nice touch in addition to the pub grub menu (tasty and good portions!) is the availability of cream teas in the afternoon, which are good fun. Pub is dog-friendly. This is a proper pub and well-worth a visit. Rated 8.
