Seven Stars, Canterbury

The Seven Stars has a wooden floor throughout, mostly herringbone, and a very uncomfortable long wooden bench along the front wall to the right of the entrance opposite the serving counter that has been decorated with the exact same grey tiles that are on the floor in my bathroom. On the right wall is a large DJ booth that has been made up to look like a sound booth, I assume this place makes most of its money at the weekend, especially as I was the only customer on a recent Friday afternoon when this pub’s peers were mostly making brisk trade. There are televisions throughout that were airing muted historic Premier League matches while some background music played. The friendly barman spotted me watching one of the screens, so he turned the music off and put the sound on, which wasn’t necessary, but was a nice gesture, nonetheless. Out the back is an enclosed astroturf seating area with stairs that lead up to flats above, the barman informed me that these flats are a hangover from the hostel that used to be on this site. So yes, the service was very good, but the draught only stretches to premium and mainstream craft keg. The Amstel needed the pipes cleaning and the pub itself isn’t really aimed at the likes of me, so I don’t see a return visit on the cards.
