Peter Forster left this review about Yelf's Hotel
An old established hotel in Union Street. Although it originally dates from the early nineteenth century it has more of a 1970s feel both externally and to some extent inside. For all of my adult life Yelfs has been the default meeting place in Ryde. The large lounge is comfortable and if you could get a seat at the front you could while away time watching the foot traffic on Union street. Once it had good beer but those days were left behind in the last century. These days the ale selection is either poor or non existent. Bar staff are frequently on their phones and not able to interact with customers. Even with these negatives it used to be fairly busy whenever I visited. However my latest visit at 1900 on a Thursday in April was a shock. The place was completely empty. I nursed a half a pint of fizz and left. If you are meeting friends this is a good place to start but I wouldn’t linger here on my own. It has all the hallmarks of a place sitting on its laurels. Hopefully things will improve.

A small hotel, which feels like a err..., small hotel. That indefinable corporate, inoffensive, boring feel. It has quite a large lounge extending round the central bar with a conservatory and patio to the rear. Two handpumps claimed Ale of Wight and Wight Gold but sadly both were off, which left a Theakston's keg - cold, gassy and very pricey. I recollect this was a haven for a decent pint many years ago. No longer.

a comfy place to chill out - except for fridays nights where the locals all drink and swear very loudly! Other than that, the food is brilliant and the staff are pleasant.
