A charming small local and free house. The entrance lobby has a table and chairs while the tap room is about the size of a micro pub with the space dominated by an open inglenook fireplace kicking out some great warmth. There are a few tables and chairs, and the bar here sports two handpumps although only Mighty Oak Captain Bob (NBSS 3.5) was available .Given my visit was on a Friday evening maybe there is only enough throughput for a single ale,but if a second appears it too will be from Mighty Oak,a very decent brewer.
There is a large back lounge if you squeeze around the internal brick chimney.L shaped with a raised section,it's very homely and carpeted throughout with a wood burner also keeping everything warm. There is a small service counter. There is a door to a charming patio beer garden.
The landlady keeps a tidy house ,mainly used by local residents who enjoy the calm ,friendly atmosphere. The soundtrack had a folk/Irish theme and was played at a sensible volume. The flatscreen was off,and there is occasional live music.
Check opening times, but one to visit on any crawl around town or just a good bolt hole if you want a quiet drink.

The Royal Oak is a nice looking pub and it is quite close to the train station.
Once inside this pub had two rooms i went in the bar which was a decent comfortable room, there were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Greene King IPA and this was ok but nothing special the other beer was Old Speckled Hen.
