A very traditional village pub,I really enjoyed my visit. There are three sections with a wooden floored public bar to the right of the front door with it's own bar access and a dart board at the far end with a good number of trophies on display.
Straight ahead from the entrance is a room with settles and a wood burner with the main bar at the rear, while to the left is a room with dining tables.Pleasing that the interior has not been knocked through and the low ceilings and exposed beams add to the character.
There are four handpumps with Tring Sidepocket as a regular and St Austall Tribute,Adnams Broadside and Church End Vicar's Ruin as guests on my visit.Pints around £3.20 and in good order fully deserving the GBG entry.A standard selection of kegged products is also available.
Food is served most sessions with bar snacks between £4 -£5 ,while mains averaged £7.50 and proving popular.Normally I dislike commercial radio played through the PA but the choice of a station with little DJ pollution and a playlist of 70's standards got my vote.
There are rustic benches by the front door for use by smokers or drinkers while at the rear by the car park there is a large garden with adventure playground equipment to keep kids occupied.
There was a very warm welcome behind the bar and dotted around the walls was a lot of Arsenal memorabilia. This pub would be a fine place for Gooners to drown their sorrows after six years without silverware, and I wouldn't hestiate to pop in again when in the area.A real gem.
