A revisit on a ramble found the pub very much as below. Three ales on (one too many given the remoteness?) and my Brakspear was flat and listless. Shame. Still, lovely setting.
June 2015
A proper middle-of-nowhere pub located in a heavily wooded area of rural Berks. Parts of the building apparently date back to 1600's. A multi-room interior, there’s the main bar at the front with a separate dining room to the left rear, past a couple of individual seating areas. Perhaps lacked a bit of cosiness in terms of décor (quarry tile flooring, wood plank cladding, almost whitewashed walls) but it was clean and tidy. Selection of papers available as well as a good number of maps to peruse. Some humour, including the angry wives and girlfriends sign (see pic). The star attraction is the garden which is a huge grass slope surrounded by mature woodland, absolutely perfect for summer. It’s all about the location with this one and the good beer was a bonus. Well-worth getting someone to drive you out here in high summer. Rated 8

What A GEM OF A PUB it takes some finding when you turn into a single track road dont give up looking its there in the middle of a wood its a car ride or if you're a walker with a rucksack you're alright but a must when you're in the area had a very good meal at a good price. God knows what happens in winter here.
We hit it right very hot summers day nice seating area outside and a beer garden
