Bucking Fastard left this review about George & Dragon

A very attractive collection of old buildings brought together to form a pub now owned by Greene King. The pub used to be famous for it's food but that team left a long time ago.

The front doors are non operational so enter off the carpark. The building shows it's age with a charming ,sunked library snug with room for just three small round tables, before the lounge is reached with two real fireplaces at either end, seating in the bay windows, traditional furniture and a side restaurant section with light leather seat covers.Lots of exposed beams ,many whitewashed and a small door leading to the quite seperate public bar with french windows onto the beer terrace high above the High Street.
Locals gather in the public bar,so do the bar staff so in the lounge it is necessary to ring the bell for service, which was friendly. This maybe a Local Heros lease from GK where you can have as many guest ales as you take GK produce which explains the choice of GK Abbot and Timothy Taylor Landlord ,NBSS Acceptable.
Food is served, hot rolls at lunchtimes, while there are meal deals (Pie and pint, tapas, grill night) on Wed - Friday and a Sunday roast.Outside there is a seafood shack at weekends with a wide choice of shell fish.
The current tenants seem to be making a large effort, and the public bar retains a working class boozer atmosphere but the nearby Bull has been a village institution for many years and the G&D seemed quiet on my Saturday visit.Shame because the interior is interesting ,worth a squint even if it's only with a half.
