Given that this is a Greene King pub, it was a pleasant surprise and certainly shows up many of the others. There was a good local atmosphere when we entered, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the only real cues to its ownership were the ale choice and standard laminated menus. There is plenty of parking at the front and side, while at the back is a sizeable garden with benches, tables and children's play apparatus which, sadly, failed to tempt some feral brats away from the bar. Inside, while there is only one large bar, it has been informally segmented to provide a degree of privacy and atmosphere. There were three handpumps on the bar, GK IPA and Abbott were available, though the third pump, although clipped for Tribute, was dry. I went for the IPA, and I have to say it was in excellent condition. Two ciders from Lillie's were also available. The keg choices were Level Head, Flint Eye, Nek Oil, Fosters, Guinness, Amstel, Peroni, Madri, San Miguel and Moretti. Apart from the brats and their owners, the clientele was quite civilised. A good pub by most standards, and worth a visit if in the area.

Always found the Fern to be a lively, busy place. A good family pub offering good fesh pub grub and excellent liquid refreshment. A pub that for many years has offered a welcome watering hole to the community with a always warm welcome to visitors.
Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
