This prominent, historic pub (previously The Brass Monkey) has been completely ruined by turning it into a haven for the culturally and intellectually challenged. The single large bar on the corner of a busy high street is lit by a violet glow which gives it the air of a continental gay bar, an image at odds with the multiple pool tables and hideous floor coverings. The staff use oxygen unnecessarily, while the customers are unfriendly, unsightly and unwelcoming. And unsober, for the most part. There is no real ale and no bottled beer. Let us hope that the tide of history soon reinstates this potentially grand hostelry to what must surely have once been a proper pub as Fareham really doesn't need another charity shop/Kwikimart/nail bar.
