Seaside pub that appears to have a bit of a touch of faded grandeur about it. The pub is mainly carpeted but has a laminate area, possibly used as a dancefloor, with a raised area near the front windows able to be used as a stage. There were World Cup buntings in place, with coverage of one World Cup game just finishing on the TVs. There is a games machine next to the bar and a pool table around the corner. A few picnic tables to the front have a good vantage over the amusement park opposite.

6 handpulls on the bar alluded to the fact that the pub appeared in the Good Beer Guide back in 2014. These days, the only cask ales were London Pride & Courage Best. Ciders were Strongbow Original & Dark Fruits. My Courage Best (brewed by Eagle these days) was acceptable but was served by a pretty disinterested young barmaid.

Food is promoted on large screens above the bar. The menu looked very similar to that of a fish and chip shop. So, I'd imagine it's brought from the shop nextdoor.

The last time I visited Southend, I only went to a seafront pub called Cornucopia, which closed about 18 months ago. As such, I knew roughly what to expect of the pubs and bars along here, but after the good surprise of Chinnery's, I was expecting something a little better here and ended up being disappointed.
