This is more of a gastropub than a drinkers' pub. It is attractively decorated throughout with lots of pictures and ornaments, many of them nautical to reflect the pub's name. Flooring is bare boards. Music was playing quite loud for the time of day and number of customers (just me and another couple dining to the rear). Wifi is advertised but I couldn't get it to work. A quiz night was being promoted whilst posters in the gents were still advertising Christmas events in February!
There are now only a couple of handpulls on the bar. Just the one was clipped with Pride. Meantime Anytime IPA & Cornish Orchards Berry cider fonts both had glasses over them. The Pravha was also off. The barman informed me that there is a national shortage of certain products. I've not found any evidence of this elsewhere in the UK! Cornish Orchards Golden was available though and my Pride was perfectly acceptable.
A smell of fish on entering was a little off-putting. I wouldn't choose to return here for a drink but perhaps the food could be a draw for some.

Now converted to a Carvery ,yet still possible to drink in the front bar area.The refurb has changed the vibe and the interior is now full of sofas and low tables,rather like drinking in grans front room.Three handpumps ,one reversed,another dispensing a real cider and the third supplying a very indifferent pint of Old Speckled Hen.I didnt bother with the carvery which during the week is priced at the extreme value end of the market.
