A plaque on the wall of this building says:
THE CLIFTON TAVERN
1870-1998
Former site of the Clifton Tavern. Initially a beer house the Clifton was granted a spirit license in 1870 under landlord James Brockhill. The Clifton remained open until the late 1990’s. It was then converted to the Southwater Area Community Centre.
