The Britannia, Gillingham

Basic town-centre boozer, although the refurbished L-shaped interior looks slightly more appealing than external appearances might suggest. No real ale of course, so made to with a quick John Smith's (£4.00) to go with the pre-Christmas nibbles that the landlord had laid on.

The Britannia is an L shaped pub that was busy with locals when I visited during Monday lunchtime. There is a TV that was showing Good Morning on ITV and there is a pool table situated in the rear of the pub. The bar is stocked with standard draught products and there are three hand pumps that were drawing Ruddles, Old Speckled Hen and Bombardier. There is an advertised beer garden out the back that I did not visit. This is a rough and ready boozer that hasn’t changed for years and I would have no problem returning, but it certainly isn’t a place I would actively seek out.
