A large roadside inn currently owned by Hall and Woodhouse.  The setting is not pretty due to its proximity to the main road and an unattractive car par.  The main outside area is the covered paved terrace at the front, fine for smokers and car spotters, but too noisy for most people.  Inside, the main bar is formed from an open plan arrangement with various snugs and crannies, creating a pleasant atmosphere.  It’s been nicely refurbished with oak panelling, a mix of wood and stone floors and enough tables and chairs to be comfortable.  There was unobtrusive background music, mainly drowned out by inane waffling from a bunch of overweight men wearing dodgy sandals.  Standard chain food was available, adequately microwaved and served with a smile.  Three ales on, all from Badger, all in reasonable condition.  It’s a pleasant enough place to stop if passing, but it was a bit lacking in a proper pub feel. 

Very pleasant pub and an ideal stop while travelling. A good welcome and efficient service, the pub is clean and well presented. The beers are kept well - the Tanglefoot was spot-on and the Palmer's Lemony Cricket was, well, different. The food is very good and the menu quite extensive and a little bit different - however it is quite expensive and the portions are not generous. Above average.
