Traveller's Rest, Dronfield

Excellent pub in a scenic area outside Chesterfield and I caught the No. 15 bus here from the centre of Chesterfield. I waited outside sitting on the benches for the 12 noon opening, along with a few other people so it's obviously a popular place. I remember we were told it's a must visit when we visited Chesterfield last year and it didn't disappoint. It's very traditional inside and if you like your cheeses, there's a choice of 55 here. They also do a very nice looking Ploughman's lunch incorporating whatever cheese you fancy from the list. I had the Steak Pie, even on a hot day it was delicious, the food here is a very high standard. 6 ales on handpump, TT Landlord, Acorn England's Dreaming & Barnsley Gold, Bradfield Farmer's Blonde, Rudgate Oliver's Twist and Rudgate Ruby Mild. This is definitely my kind of pub and great to see it well supported, even on a Monday lunchtime.

This pub has been well described below, and was certainly popular when I was here, with several families having their Sunday evening meals. The food looked adventurous and tasty, and the list of cheeses on the wall was almost enough to make me regret turning vegan three years ago. There are seven ciders (see photo) and six cask beers (see photos), of which Landlord was tempting, but having had a Stancill beer in my first pub I was intrigued to see another of theirs on the bar, also 4.3%: Stainless (also NBSS 3.5). A worthy GBG pub, just a shame it's too far out to visit regularly - pity about the cheese too.
