Cocky Anchor, Worcester

Beautiful building - take a moment to admire the three heads on the outside. Rumours that it was owned by an artist and at one point, was a synagogue. Brave decision to open a micro pub directly opposite a JDW. But it seems to be doing OK. Bay window that fully opens for an airy seat and you can watch/goad the JDW punters. An outside rear garden. Stairs were blocked off but the friendly landlord talked about them opening a terrace bar, which would be a unique feature for the town. Beer-wise - a tad limited I thought. Some beers were their own brew from a Hampshire Sister pub. Unsure how you end up with the chain of two pubs so far apart. There was an IPA from magpie brewery that was in average condition. Smelt like it was slightly on the turn. It was a Tuesday. Plans for brewery takeovers in the future. Lots of competition for micros in Worcester. I wish them well.

Great little micropub housed in a Georgian 5 storey building. The staircase is not for the elderly or the faint hearted! Nice little beer garden out back. Very friendly service. I enjoyed a good chat with the knowledgeable gaffer. 3 beers on - Welbeck Abbey Brewery Atlas, Hop Shed Pale and a house beer from Flack Manor. The beer was spot on. A must visit when in Worcester.
