Artist Residence, Bristol

As described by Blackthorn, below, this unusual establishment is tucked away close to, but not part of, the City centre, housed in an old boot factory and part of a small chain. The business offers accommodation and restaurant food, so the bar is just a small part of it. It has the feel of a cafe bar rather than a pub, and the main client base appears to be the more mature tourist rather than local drinkers. No real ales on during this visit, though the keg range was better than average: Infinity Helles Lager, North Street Cider, BBF's Clear Head and Independence, Guinness, My Little Sabrony and Shangri La from Arbor, and Keller Pils and Wanna Go To The Sun from Lost and Grounded. There was also a large selection of spirits and a cocktail menu. The young staff were pleasant and helpful, there were plenty of tables and comfy chairs available, and the ambience was calm, a pleasant change from the City. Notwithstanding the lack of ale, I could be tempted back.
