Beefy Boys, Exeter

This is Exeter’s BrewDog outlet where the entrance opens onto rows of open plan high tables that run to the right where they’re faced by the serving counter up the right-hand wall. The usual large white beer board sits on the wall above a long line of keg taps on the back bar, there were over 20 craft keg options available. In the left side of the bar is some standard furniture and some booths run up the left wall. In the right rear is a kitchen and I didn’t venture up the flight of stairs. It was very busy with a student crowd during my recent Wednesday evening visit, the students at Exeter Uni must be some of the most affluent in the country.

Located in the north-eastern entrance of the Guildhall Shopping Centre, this branch suffers a bit from a lack of natural light, both within the usual semi-industrial interior and also on the benches out in the arcade. Up to 28 beers and ciders available from two rows of taps on separate parts of the bar-back. With the expected diverse range of styles and strengths, I went for the Made in Berlin helles (£4.10, schooner).
