The Doghouse Micro Pub, Weymouth

Unsure why anyone would chose to go into hospitality and then close up at 8pm on a Saturday night? It is in the Good Beer Guide - one of two in town. I walked in and there were regulars with full pints at the bar. The landlady could not have headed me off at the pass quick enough. I explained that it was a shame she was closing, as I travel the country visiting the GBG pubs. No dice, so I turned to leave only for one of the be-pinted regulars to shout "and don't bother coming back!". It was 19:55.

A long and narrow shop conversion becoming even narrower towards the far end where the bar is, the regulars were habitually hanging around the bar causing a bottle neck, they were all friendly and made way but irritating all the same. Seating was decent and relatively plentiful. Six cask beers on which I failed to list but my choice was Downton Bogus Buffalo. A decent micropub despite the bottleneck and well worth a visit.

Visited july 2018 when it first opened and found it a bit ramshackle and unfinished interior wise.Six cask beers on,mostly local beers but my Sixpenny brewery beer was good.

A micropub in a former shop premises, the tiled single bar stretches the full width of the terrace. There is the usual collection of Spartan furniture, some of it made from beer barrels. The locals were chatty, the barmaid friendly, but somehow it lacked the atmosphere and conviviality usually found in such places. There was a small TV screen on the wall, but it was switched off. There was a selection of gin, at least two ciders and mead on sale, plus four ales – Copper Street’s Aethel’s Sword, Perry Street Pale, BDC’s Durdle Dor and Brotherhood’s Grapefruit IPA. The Aethel’s Sword I had was completely flat. It’s worth a visit but it’s not the best micro ever.
