Moonface Brewery & Tap, Loughborough

A tiny tap room with an equally tiny brewery in the back room, all the cask beers are stillaged on the back wall of the tap room, a couple of craft kegs were available from a shiny box dispenser. Pretty limited seating at tables and chairs and a couple of stools at casks as tables, a bit more seating is available in the brewery bit. The lav’s are in the front and they’ve squeezed in a piano to one side. Limited opening hours so check before travelling as they say. Maybe I was lucky but on sale there was one Moonface beer (It’s Only Pale) with Shipstones (not that one), Lenten Lane and Halls (not that one either and their Valkyrie isn’t the Rudgate one), aren’t beers and breweries confusing? Regulars tend to put their empty glasses on the floor in a corner of the counter. I wasn’t expecting this customer profile for a brewery tap; older men and dogs! Not many beards and no lumberjack shirts. Decent cobs.

Supposedly a brewery tap, but none of their own beers on when I visited this two-part establishment. The front bit is like an alehouse-style micro-pub with the ales served by gravity from jacketed casks on the stillage behind the counter. More seating can be found further back, along with some fridges and shelves for bottled and canned beers. So, ignoring the very loud regular pontificating on everything, I quite enjoyed my King George from Little Brewing (£4.20).
