The Keg and Comfort, Wolverhampton

Micropub housed in an austere 50s looking brick and glass former bank. The interior has a single room, with a small lounge housed within a room within (which had sofas). The main room is in a coffee colour with a wood floor and has the seemingly ubiquitous barrels. The rear serving bar does indeed utilise coloured bottles for effect. There is plenty of dog pictures on the walls - many it seems for sale. There is no TV or music. The do bar snacks. Service was very friendly and some maturer locals were in. There were four real ales on and a few ciders. I had an excellent Abbeydale Salvation Stout. An excellent place, and one I will return to when Mrs Soup is driving!

This is an unusual micropub in that it was originally a small bank. A big plus side for this is that it is a decent size and has plenty of mixed seating and big windows letting in light. There is also the former "Manager's Office" which has been turned into a sort of snug. A number of old bottles have been used to create a bar counter and a clock on one wall. This is a "proper" micropub with no TV, music and currently no keg offerings or speciality spirits. The landlady was very friendly and welcoming. Conveniently, the stop for buses back to Wolverhampton is right outside the door. There are six hand pumps on the bar with four ales and two ciders but there are further ciders in the cold room. You won't need to arrange an overdraught to come here as currently all beers and ciders are priced at £3.10. This included an 8.4% abv cider which I swerved away from as I had my sensible hat on that day. The four ales were Skinners Betty Stoggs, Twisted Rider, Bristol Beer Factory Milk Stout and Dancing Duck Abduction. I tried the Rider, Milk Stout and Abduction all of which were excellent. The only slight downside of this one is that it's in the heart of suburbia with few other pubs nearby but if you actually live here that would be a big plus.
